It's just a normal day. You're staring out the window of the train on your way to work half listening to a podcast. You're worried about a presentation you have to give in a few days when you notice me on the other side of the train. I'm 6'0" with dark eyes and glasses, dark hair starting to salt and pepper with big hands and broad shoulders. We exchange a glance but you look down at your phone a little embarrassed. When you try to get another look at me to your surprise I'm right behind you, my hand holding on above you. We ride this way for a few stops. Me looming over you. My breath hot on your shoulder. You keep drifting back into me equally wanting to speak to me and sprint off at the next stop. You eventually turn to look at me. My eyes are locked on yours. Direct. I say to you, "I ride this train every day to work. I don't know about you but every day I fantasize about what it would be like to just get off and go anywhere else. Every day I think about the infinite possibilities I'm passing up. Then inevitably I'm sitting in some boring meeting living my every day life. But today...at the next stop. I'm going to get off. And I want you to come with me. Now I know there's a million different reasons not to. All of them practical. All of them sane. But I think if you don't get off this train you will always wonder what would have happened if you did." I don't say anything else. In a moment the brakes get applied and the train slows to a stop. I step off on to the platform and wait there to see if you'll join me on this adventure.
