How to enjoy psychedelics more

Hey psychonauts,
I'm a regular user of various drugs and I've tried quite a few psychedelics. Some gave me amazing trips, but a lot of the time the experience gets ruined by a few recurring things:
- With LSD, 4-HO-MET, or some NBOMes, if I don’t mix them with something else, I end up in this weird "hyper-lucid" state that makes it hard to relax and enjoy the trip. If I take them at a party without anything else, I always feel like something is missing, and I end up wanting to drink alcohol or take ketamine to smooth things out and actually enjoy the night.
- LSD often goes like this for me: energetic and fun beginning, then a plateau lasting a few hours where my mood drops, I have less energy, become cynical and over-analytical about everything around me, and just want to go home and trip alone. Then near the end of the trip, things get better again.
- I once took 4-HO-MET to go to an art exhibition because I had read it could be great for that, but I felt much less immersed than I would have been sober. Instead, I got stuck focusing on small personal issues that weren’t even what I wanted to think about.
- Psychedelics often make me want to laugh, but without actually finding things genuinely funny. Since I'm aware of it, it doesn’t feel fun at all, just weird and tiring.
- With most psychedelics I also get unpleasant physical sensations: muscle tension and spasms, usually in my right hamstring for some reason (I never have issues there normally), a strange reflux-like sensation that isn’t relieved by medication and feels very different from nausea, and sometimes nausea too. It really gets in the way of enjoying the trip, and it also makes me hesitant to try higher doses of some substances, but I'd sometimes like stronger visuals.
I read so many wonderful psychedelic experiences where people talk about emotional release, deep realizations, feeling peaceful, etc. For me it's often almost the opposite. I’d really like to experience that side too.
If anyone has advice, I'd love to hear it.
