If I have posted a story elsewhere on the internet with some username, do I need to change that username if I want to publish it with Smashwords?

I'm not sure if I've interpreted this correctly, but when I was reading through their rules about this, it sounded like if you have posted a story elsewhere online, it has to match the name on the book being published or they will assume you're plagiarizing and ban you. Is that correct? Do I need to change my usernames on those sites? Would that somehow be insufficient?

I am so confused about how book covers work and my head hurts

Trying to post this on my older account because it got zapped on my newer one that I made for this purpose 🥲

There is sooo much conflicting information on this sub and I'm literally getting a stress headache trying to figure out how I can make book covers without spending out the ass in amounts I may never even break even with or else getting shafted by amazon or sued. How are people making their book covers? I've seen people say that canva and other royalty free photo sites are fine to use, but looking into it further, that absolutely does not seem true. I saw someone saying amazon will ban you if you use covers from canva? I don't know if that's still the case? Legally, it's not safe at all to use the free stock photos for various reasons. Is everyone just risking a lawsuit or are they paying nearly $40 for every single book cover photo they use? I really want to make this work, but I'm hoping this will be a financial boon in some way, not a money sink I can't climb out of when I'm already struggling really badly with money ;-; Please help. I really don't know what to do.

Idk, is the issue overblown? Is it fine if you heavily edit the photos? I'm just really nervous, but presumably most people are not paying tons for photos and also don't get heavily fined. Right? Am I being an idiot?

And I know it's not likely to be something I can do for a living, I know that. I'm not looking to do that.
