I’m an anime fan. After trying out Eternum, I was struck by how similar its story feels to Sword Art Online.
Both feature a futuristic neural implant that lets you dive into a hyper-realistic virtual game. In Eternum, though, we later discover it’s not just a game. Both stories also have advanced AIs (Calypso in Eternum and Yui in SAO) that the main character (MC) treats like real human beings.
Additionally, both have multiple servers where the MC and their group tackle missions and quests. They even have personal servers: in SAO the group has one with a house, and in later chapters of Eternum, Orion creates his own server that looks similar to their home. Both groups often strategize and make plans on their private servers.
There are countless other small connections I can’t fully recall since I watched SAO a long time ago.
If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend giving Eternum a shot before the next update drops!
