Being stationed half a globe away was not in the plans for us.
I was supposed to just be sent nearby, close enough for me to drive on weekends and see you.

But the tensions in the east have ramped up and I'll be in a submarine for the next 8 months; guarding peace in the region and far away from you.

The few times I get to talk to you shows me that you aren't exactly happy with my deployment. And neither am I.
I couldn't say no. It would have been a career suicide for my military aspirations.

Yet, I also know you very well and though you're loving, faithful, and the sweetest woman I have ever met, you do have needs.
Those ten or fifteen minute phone calls or video calls that we have are not enough to satiate the desires in you.

Desires that have been great ever since you started having sex.

I love that about you.

And I can't fathom seeing the unsatisfied and angry expression on your face for the next year.

"Baby" I break the ice during one of our phone calls.

I laugh, shaking my head, as we sit there on the bench, near the water, looking at the last seagulls leave loudly.
The base behind us is lively.
The deployment to be in the morning. The sunset to be the last Daryl sees in these parts for a while.

"You already got everything you need, Dare. How she's letting you go just like that, I don't know" I retort to him.

He grins. "Keep her safe until I get back"

"Oh, so I get the difficult job now?" I cackle. "She can take care of herself bud. But I'll keep an eye on her"

Daryl reaches over and pats my shoulder as we both just look on at a nice and beautiful sunset. The next chapter in our lives to commence in ways we never would have expected.
