Anyone here have experience with cruising on regular cruise ships?
On a Carnival Alaska (Alaska Inside Passage & Glacier on the Miracle) cruise with family and was curious how different cruising culture is on a ship compared to parks or more traditional spots.
I’m pretty subtle and honestly not great at reading signals. Back home it’s been very hit or miss for me. Sometimes I miss signs entirely, sometimes nobody’s around, sometimes I randomly get lucky.
I’ve heard people mention steam rooms on cruise ships before, especially later at night, but I also know ships are crowded, security exists, and you’re stuck around the same people all week so discretion matters way more.
I share a cabin with family, so bringing anyone back isn’t really possible either.
I know the old hanky code exists and thought about using a subtle light blue one in my right pocket, but I also know most people probably wouldn’t recognize that nowadays and may just see it as fashion. Even setting your profile name on things like Grindr, Scruff, Jack’d, and Sniffies to the ship name is hit of miss on open water with no signal.
Mainly just wondering: How do people usually signal interest on cruises without making things awkward? Are steam rooms actually active or mostly internet myth? Any etiquette or safety advice for someone quieter and inexperienced with this kind of setting?
