My first encounter with Karen Lancaume was through Fuga dall’Albania, back when the internet was still pretty raw and finding full movies online actually took some effort.

That one film ended up being a triple discovery for me, because it also introduced me to Monica Roccaforte and Coralie at the same time.

The story mostly follows Karen’s journey, so she’s all over the film. And even though the overall tone is quite dark and heavy, I remember being really drawn to her screen presence. There was just something about her that stuck with me long after the movie ended. That was pretty much the moment I started digging deeper into her work—and I’ve been a fan ever since, always on the lookout for more of her films.
