Yesterday I took a different route home after work because the usual train line was delayed again, and somehow that small change completely shifted the mood of the evening. I ended up walking through a quiet neighborhood with tiny plant shops, old bicycles parked outside apartment buildings, and cats sleeping near vending machines like they owned the street. There was this small ramen place with handwritten signs taped to the window, and even though I wasn’t hungry, I stood there for a few minutes just looking at the steam coming out every time the door opened. It made me realize how strange adulthood feels sometimes.
