It was not an uncommon statement for me to make. Not because I believed it personally but because I loved getting under your skin. I loved riling you up and slowly needling my way into your heart.

Was it the best way to convince you your court sorceress was your best choice? Probably not.

Were there times you very much regretted bringing me on with all the teasing and bratty comments I’d make? Absolutely.

But did you also deeply enjoy the opportunities you got to take to shut me up? To pin me to a wall and turn my sharp tongue into one that could only moan your name? Without question.

We had a special relationship. As a queen you were traditionally meant to find a husband. A king. You’d never cared for that tradition but put up the act of searching at first. And as need for an heir grew it became a more honest search. But your eyes had ever drifted elsewhere besides the noble lords petitioning for your hand.

It was wrong, nearly scandalous, but for all my teasing you preferred my own company. Even if there was some concern over how the lords beneath you would respond to finding out such truths.

My own teasing to pile onto your frustration didn’t help. But then again, I wasn’t trying to.

Because just as much as I could feel you wanted me, I needed you.
