Reminder: Beach cleanup tomorrow

For anyone that can make it, please come down to Blacks tomorrow Monday July 6 and help pick up trash from the weekend. If you do see any full trash bags, please grab 1 or 2 and take them up the hill or south to the trash bins at the bottom of the paved access road. Let's keep Blacks trash- free!

Blacks beach cleanup Monday July 6

Based on past years, inevitably some people leave their trash behind at the beach. If anyone would like to volunteer to pick up trash on Monday, July 6, come to the beach anytime. The morning is best. Bring trash bags, preferably ones with top closures, gloves, and if you have it, a trash picker upper thingy. Please haul your full trash bags up the trail, or take your bags south to the large trash bins at the bottom of the paved road.

No Trash Collection at Blacks Beach

Locals know this, but for people visiting Blacks Beach for the first time, note that their are no trash cans on the beach at Blacks. Please pack out whatever you bring to the beach. Do not leave food containers, water bottles, or any litter behind.

Where are Blacks Beach visitors from?

With summer here, it would be fun if Blacks Beach visitors would post where they are from. Besides locals and U.S. visitors, we have met people from Germany, Lithuania, Chile, and even someone from Guadeloupe Island!

Blacks Beach Trail access

One of our friends wanted to meet us this morning to go to Blacks Beach. He said he would meet us at the end of Sie Francis Drake Road. When I asked him what he was talking about, he said, " yeah, you know, the end of the dirt road north of the Gliderport!" We had no idea that that road actually had a name. Our friend is a cartographer, so it figures he would know it had a name! Well , we learned something new today!

Images of razor wire fence

You can clearly see where the razor wire has been cut to allow an opening. It was apparent yesterday based on the recent footprints that people have started to go back south of the fence. I'm not advocating this, because it is still trespassing, but we didn't see any Marines around. When we left, one of the guys we met, in an act of pseudo-rebellion, turned the No Trespassing sign around facing the south!

Heads up...

For those who go to Blacks early in the morning and park at the Gliderport, be aware that the City of San Diego gate where the pavement ends has been closed. Turns out some vandals keep putting strong glue in the key lock so the city worker who empties the trash cans and the park ranger can't open the gate. For Blacks Beach visitors, be aware than you can turn into the Salk Institute parking area and through an opening to get to the Gliderport parking area and the parking area to the north.
