I’m an 18-year-old golfer who has received numerous Division I offers. I’m tall, fit, blonde-haired, and blue-eyed. However, I’m shy, quiet, and a bit introverted. I definitely don’t take after either of my parents, who love attention, especially my mom. She’s a former golfer herself who used to play but now only picks up the clubs occasionally. Today was one of those days when she decided to join me.

My dad’s work organizes a monthly golf weekend. He usually takes me with him, and I end up beating everyone. Today, he brought me and my mom, but there were 10 of us, and our club only allows 8 players at a time. Naturally, my dad suggested that I should go with my mom. I just scoffed and didn’t resist. I grabbed a cart for both of us.

I know why he did it. He doesn’t want to see me 10 shots ahead through the first nine holes. Plus, I love hanging out with my mom. She’s definitely more relaxed than my dad. We have very deep conversations together. And I can teach her how to play again. It’ll be a great opportunity for us to bond as a mother and son, just the two of us on the course.
