[GMA4A] A School, Magic-Shrouded

Spiritbless was an ancient site, so-called because many thought the Earth Bones twisted in unknown ways beneath the ground, lending magic to the very air itself. But like so many myths, it is untrue. Yes, the academy here started simply because the fertile land, clear air and secluded mountain valley were perfect for supporting the study of magic, even during turbulent times. So it was that many from around the world made their way here to improve and challenge themselves. And so it was that a city sprouted around it, to profit from the many magical goods and services that flowed in great surplus from the school.

The campus of Spiritbless itself has its sordid myths and rumors. The never-ending supply of willing students had, in worse times, been quite the temptation for unscrupulous mages intent on fueling their power and research. The dark things that have been committed at this school do not bear speaking about, particularly on campus… though there are those that poke and prod at the truth nonetheless.

The city, Spirithome, is no stranger to darkness as well. The interplay of the magical and the mundane has always been the birthplace of superstition and fear. Distrust of magic is well-placed, as is the concern about what ignorant laypeople do when resentment towards the powerful and educated boils over.

The school is about to change, for one simple reason. You’re here.

This is largely me dipping my toes back into writing after a long while away, digging out an old prompt I never did much with.

That being said, I wouldn’t say I’m looking to jump into roleplay right away. I would love to chat about the writing process, kinks and most of all: worldbuilding! I think coming up with an interesting and unique world with interconnected systems makes for a fascinating thought experiment that can be as fun as writing in it.

A little bit inspired by the school in *Name of the Wind* and, of course, the many lovely prompts and writers on this sub. Let’s get into it below!

What would this be without *magic!* I love in-depth magic. This would likely be somewhere between a soft and hard system, with rules but prioritizing fun: more about “feel” and interpreting intent rather than adhering to an exact structure or casting specific spells. This is to add to the feel of freedom and self-expression! Tied into this would be character progression: we would track skills as you improve. But you should also specialize to some extent: you won’t master everything. And remember… Magic is **far** from being just combat.

I’m highly adaptable to many writing styles, but I am looking for a partner with a relatively high proficiency. I don’t think of myself as an excellent writer, so I’m rather forgiving. But most of all, creativity is key! I want you to challenge me to be creative. Test my assumptions and think outside the box.

If this does become an RP, I’m looking for interesting and complex characters. While this could be a power fantasy, it may also benefit from a wrench thrown in the works. Something to impede your progress and present something to overcome aside from the dangers of the school (or the outside world) and the naturally perilous task of taming the wild forces of magic.
