I Tested a Hookup Website Because Tinder Exhausted Me
I spent a week testing the Meetups hookup website because I was honestly getting tired of normal dating apps.
At this point Tinder feels like:
- ghosting simulator
- people collecting Instagram followers
- “looking for something serious” bios from people who reply once every 3 business days
So I tried Meetups out of pure curiosity.
And honestly? It was way less awkward than I expected.
The biggest difference was that people there seemed way more direct. Less pretending, less weird emotional chess. People were mostly upfront about wanting casual conversations, flirting, or meeting someone without turning it into a corporate interview process.
A few things I noticed after using it for a week:
- Short messages worked WAY better than long openers
- Activity after like 8 PM was significantly higher
- Funny/confident messages got the best replies
- People seemed less emotionally exhausting overall
Not saying it’s perfect though.
There were still:
- dead conversations
- some suspicious profiles
- aggressive upgrade prompts
…but compared to mainstream apps, it honestly felt more relaxed.
Ironically, when people stop pretending they’re searching for their soulmate after 2 messages, conversations become much more normal.
Curious if anyone else here has tried Meetups or similar hookup websites recently. Was your experience decent or complete chaos?
