Consider a quiet street full of rowhomes in a major metropolitan area. There's plenty of action nearby, but the immediate avenue, flush with blossoms in spring and green throughout long and lush summers before fall sets the branches to light, is mellow enough most days that any big truck, especially a moving van, is bound to catch most people's notice.

That's how it began. I stepped outside onto my porch one bright afternoon for the mail, curious about the new neighbors across the way from where I stood, and amidst a handful of professional movers, you were there, directing traffic. I smiled and waved mildly; you returned both gestures in kind. A more formal but oh-so-brief introduction occured later, on a morning when you caught me in a moment before I left for work. You seemed nice. I figured you'd fit right in at the block party later that year. Another friendly and unimposing neighbor among a good existing number.

Hm. Unimposing, or so I thought.

I may never know whether it was intentional, but trust me: It does not take much at all to impose upon a man's life. Sometimes, all it takes, just a few weeks after an alluring feminine form makes its presence known -- yes, I am a man, i can acknowledge you are attractive and desirable -- and then arrives half-clothed in front of a window, illuminated by a pale bedroom light. Just one glimpse.

And I was hooked.
