With the rise in population, so too did the state see a rise in crime, and while the prisons were enough for now, it wouldn’t be that way for long. The government had to think of something before they filled up, and inevitably overflowed into society. That was the problem they had faced, and just a few months ago, they had found the solution. Outsource the caretaking of some of the criminals to the general public.
The premise was simple. They’d pay you to take care of an inmate. Feed it, let it live in your home, let it get some exercise, really, you could do just about anything you wanted, so long as you didn’t let them go. The process was simple: you opt into the program, and they find you an inmate, and bring you two together to initiate your pairing. The inmate would be given to you in a straitjacket, and you’d be given a number of tools to control their behavior, including but not limited to a shock collar, ankle shackles, and a tracking device, as well as a cage to keep the inmate when they’re out of the house. Then you’d be on your way, and receive a monthly stipend in the mail. The aim was to find people who needed some cash, and use them to take the burden off of the prison system.
Nick was one of those people. He had told himself he’d never opt into the program, it would take too much out of him to care for another person, and depending on the crimes they had committed, he might not be able to stand them. But as rent got higher and higher, it was the only avenue open to him. He needed to opt into the inmate adoption program.
Hello! I’m looking to play as a down-on-his-luck man in this scenario who, due to a need for money, has to adopt an inmate from a local prison. The character I have in mind, Nick, can be changed if you don’t like him, but the important part about this is that he’s doing this for the money, not to take advantage of a criminal he’s overseeing. So what inmate does he get paired with? That’s up to you. Other than being a woman, I have no requirements here! Feel free to approach with your own character suggestions. I’d love to know what your character was arrested for (I’m fine with petty crimes or more serious offences, if you believe in rehabilitation, maybe your character was framed? Very open here.) and how long they’ve been in prison.
Of course, as the story develops, our characters start growing closer and closer, and a relationship blossoms. This, too, is very open-ended. Maybe it happens as your character is being rehabilitated, or maybe there’s some corruption involved, and your character gets mine in on their evil ways.
