









He contacted me on Signal saying he needed money for Hemgenix, an extremely expensive gene therapy that isn’t sold in regular pharmacies and must be administered and monitored in a clinical setting. He pushed hard for me to send him $1,500.
I never sent money, but I played along to see how far he’d go and saved all screenshots and photos he sent, including ones where he’s holding “medicine” and others with my name and the date written on paper.
The account that contacted me was using the TikTok handle @derek.shanw4. I cannot confirm who is actually behind that account or whether it belongs to the real person it claims to be, but the story and the money request raised major red flags for me.
I’ve already filed a report with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) and reported the TikTok account as a possible impersonation/scam. I’m posting here to warn others and to ask: is there anything else I should be doing, or other places you’d recommend I report or document this?
