Further News on the Motherless Takedown

Further News on the Motherless Takedown

I got an email newsletter from Collective Shout that contained a petition to further pressure major service providers that support Motherless' operations.

I sent an email via this petition system, although I'm not certain if this is too late, or if the fight is still ongoing.

From my understanding Motherless has been temporarily shut down pending investigation and to see if they will "correct" the huge amount of videos that contain sexual abuse hosted on the site. I think the petition I signed may be intended to keep pressure on major providers like Google, so that they don't alter course and reinstate Motherless as this story loses traction in the media. I know Dutch authorities had seemingly initiated this action, but I'm not certain how much power they will have if the service providers refuse to cooperate.

I think this link should work, they have already formatted a detailed email and it will automatically send to the appropriate service providers that have supported Motherless' operations thus far. You just have to put your information in and sign off.

Reddit has integrated "US Take it Down Act" As a Report Tool

I am not certain how it will work as I only just signed in and saw it, but when you go to report, one of the popup options is now "U.S. Take it Down Act", which then leads to a second portal where you must file a more detailed report, similar to how Moderator Cods of Conduct reports work.

If anyone has any further knowledge about this new report tool, I think it'd be good to have some info for how the community can utilize it, what scenarios it is effective in, etc, I know only recently the Take it Down act has actually gone into effect as law, and this at least seems to be a positive feature introduced by Reddit.

The sub "kinktownwithoutrules" explicitly states it has zero rules both within the name of the sub, and the about section. The sub also jokes that it knows it will eventually be banned and encourages people to "just have fun" or something like that.

Even worse is that the primary function of the sub is to post invites for off platform encrypted messengers, which are already used heavily to transmit some of the worst things we seek to combat. There are often posts on the sub using tags that are overtly predatory, posts about sharing nonconsensual images, sharing information of unwitting individuals, and promoting rape and sexual abuse as a fetish, as well as posts eluding to or requesting bestiality.

This subreddit was created recently but appears to be gaining a larger amount of daily posts and visitors. I am sure many of you who are veterans of bfh have reported users posting the "caption" image sets that feature some form of hentai/pornography picture with text overlay that says something like "direct message me any porn or hentai".

This sub acts as an aggregator for users to post these images, and I have already reported numerous posts that have clauses in the captions including terms like "no limit", "legal or illegal", "any age", and "i cant report anything you send", some posts also include requests for "pictures of irls" aka nonconsensual imagery of unwitting people others know from their "real lives".

Some users appear to be remaining on platform and requesting reddit dms, while others also include info to initiate off platform contact.

While I assume some users of their sub don't understand the implications of posting these image sets, this is an extremely dangerous sub that normalizes almost everything we seek to combat, and I am quite certain other users have highly intentional motives for posting these things, I don't see how they can get more overt than posting "send anything legal or illegal".

I am not certain if Reddits automod cannot easily discern text within images, but I have seen several users use those same terms in the title of their posts and am a bit surprised this sub passed whatever threshold of review there is.
