I'm having a lot of fun with pastels lately. This is a4 kraft paper with conte pencils.

I spend a lot of time practising from references, but I'm also lucky enough to get to sketch live models online most days.

So I've been working away at this face tonight, the first image is my most recent practice, with the next 2 being earlier attempts. I've included the reference so you can give me your tips on how to get better!

I used to loathe charcoal because of how imprecise it feels. Now I'm starting to love it. I was advised recently by a very talented artist to try materials that don't allow fine detail as a way of getting better at accuracy. Seemed a contradiction but I totally understand it now. Got a long way to go but loving this journey

Every so often someone sends me their dick to draw. I've yet to see one I didn't like.

Drawing from reference photos gives me lots of time to fix mistakes. These drawing sessions are how I get to see what I'm bad at, it's painful sometimes but it's been great practice.
