Starter:

It was early morning as I groaned and rolled out of bed before my alarm even rung. It was 5am and I stalked over to my bathroom to brush and piss, once I was done washing my hands I stretched on my yoga mat before doing 100 pushups and sit ups straight. All the while my mind was split between two things. The game tonight against Central, there was rumors a Duke Coach would be there tonight to watch. While I wasn’t nervous as I was already A top 15 player in my class and had dozens of offers from top programs this was different, Duke was Different.

But as I went to my backyard to put up shots on my old hoop, 200 makes before showering and eating for school. My thoughts went to you, a cheerleader on the school team, my car pool buddy and recently someone I’ve been having eyes and more and more feelings for.

I always heard your voice first other than my parents during games and I was always looking for you when you were around. Lately it’s gotten worse and harder to hide. From getting hard , to glaring as scaring off guys who liked you, to our newly bashful flirting not caring who heard or was around.

I shook my head trying focus as my thought of you had me miss 6 straight jumpers.

I chuckled “Damn girl got me all fucked up… but damn I love that smile… and that ass..” I finished my workout and went into shower and change into the schools uniform although I did add a few touches, namely my chains, watch and earrings that shined with diamond thanks to NIL money.

I grabbed my bag and keys getting into my Jeep as I texted you, it now being closer to 8. “I’m headed to your place now, be there soon.”

We can both be players at the same school who flirt and compete building a rivals-lovers dynamic.

One can be a player and the other a team manager or trainer that knows the game, and now sees the other as their next target but for more than just hooping.

It was a crisp night and the sound of the ball pounding the hardwood floor echoed , after another close loss, the second in a row I was frustrated and getting up extra shots not caring about the Friday night parties or festivities.

Again for the second game in a row I missed a game winning shot with under 20 seconds left. The first game the shot hit the front iron and the in the second it went in and out the rim making my heart sink.

But this game give and takes, so here I was trying to put in work to take back the confidence I’d lost. But as another shot clacked off the rim and rolled towards the door I stopped as a soft, familiar voice cut through the gym.

Y/c - “Hahah why are you shooting like your made at the basket? You won’t ever hit a tough shot like that…”
