A cluttered but cozy college dorm room on a Friday afternoon. The sound of students hanging out on the quad drifts in through the open window.
My roommate, Chloe, drops her backpack on the floor and flops backward onto her bed, letting out a loud, dramatic sigh. After a moment, she turns her head to look at me.
"Okay, week one of being a free, independent woman is officially in the books," Chloe says, sitting up and crossing her legs. "No more texting the high school ex, no more staying in every Friday to watch movies on FaceTime. We are officially initiating your new chapter."
She stands up, walks over to my closet, and starts flipping through the hangers.
"Tonight, we are going out. There's an art department mixer at the student union, a bonfire down by the lake, and a huge party off-campus at the lacrosse house later. It's totally up to you how you want to play this, but staying in those sweatpants is no longer an option. It's time to figure out what the full college experience actually looks like for you."
She pulls out a couple of different outfits, tosses them onto my bed, and looks at me expectantly.
