I, now 23, found a voicemail from my Auntie, now 42, on my phone one day after she left my house 5 years ago.
We were close as I grew up. Vacations every year with me and my mom, holidays, dinners weekly, shopping together. We were close in a very normal family sense. She has been single as far back as I remember (she never mentioned anyone). Over time I learned that she is gay, small things mentioned between her and my mom, things I picked up on throughout the years. I didn’t think anything of it.. I mean she’s “Auntie”. Anyway.. not uncommon for her to keep an eye on me as mom would travel occasionally for work for a day or 2 at a time. Very infrequent for mom to travel but when she did my aunt would either stay over our house or I would stay there.
5 years ago.. I was 18, just had my bday 3 weeks earlier. Mom had to travel. No big deal.. Mom said I’m 18, that she’s only going to be gone for 2 days, I’m super responsible btw.. Mom says I’m on my own, there’s plenty of food in the fridge and I can order delivery on the restaurant delivery account if I want. I’m cool with it, not excited or anything but cool with it.
Mom leaves, I’m watching tv , it’s like 10pm and I get a text from my aunt. We text all the time, few times daily, so not unexpected. Auntie’s text “Hey! Gonna stop by.. your mom’s cool with you staying alone.. but I’m not”. I text back “cool.. not used to being alone anyway.” I was totally cool with having company. She’s really pretty! 5’6”, curves, I guess 140-150 lbs, long beautiful brown hair, big brown eyes.
She arrives, walks right in.. kinda freaked me out a bit since I’m alone.. she has a tote, sits next to me on the couch and says “Hey.. been a while.” Big smile on her face. I laughed, said something like “yeah been like 20 hours”, bc I saw her the day before. She saw I had Gilmore Girls going on Netflix, she recognized it said “cool! GG’s!” (Continued in comments)
