I’m 24M. A few months ago I had kidney pain, doctor sent me for an ultrasound.
I go to the lab, wait for my turn, walk into the room and it’s only women. Nurses, doctor, technician. Zero male staff.
They tell me to lift my shirt. I do it, but I feel weirdly awkward. Trying not to smile for no reason, just standing there feeling out of place. Gel goes on, everything’s normal, then they say my bladder isn’t full enough.
So I drink more water, wait, and go back in. Same setup. Same all-female team. One of the girls keeps smiling the whole time and I honestly don’t know what to do with my face.
I’m not saying it was traumatic or anything. It was just uncomfortable in a way I didn’t expect. Made me wonder how many other guys have been in the same situation.
Maybe labs and hospitals should keep at least one male technician available for these scans. Not a big ask.
