After spending most of my early 20s being your typical party girl, dating around and going to clubs and such, I felt like I needed something more out of life. I was in a very vulnerable state and I figured I had to get some sort of direction.
I attended a church service once to try it out and haven't felt so enlightened and free. It's an instant 180 from how I was. Gone were the party pictures from my socials, replaced by bible verses and inspirational quotations and videos.
My parents and friends couldn't believe it and were still adjusting to the new me but they were so happy for me.
I felt like I wanted to learn more, to experience this new page in my life and so was open to trying out different congregations, speakers, pastors. Anything to further my faith.
It was a worship day and I am at the strip mall after service, looking at some religious books to buy and read when I'm approached by someone offering me a chance to try a relatively unknown evangelical congregation.
Being eager to learn more, I readily agree and sign up for your quarterly, week-long retreat to a gorgeous mountain location. It was picturesque, tranquil and isolated: perfect for some religious and spiritual self-discovery.
The day of the retreat comes and I am sat in the bus taking myself and the a bunch of newcomers up to the mountain retreat. With nothing but my bag full of clothes for the week, my excitement plain to see, I climb down the bus and smile as we arrive.
