I’ve been struggling with porn and casual hook ups for going on 7 years. It’s been all consuming. Low standards, debased encounters. The urge to get off was so strong that some days I couldn’t even get out of bed with out a release before getting ready for work.

I recently decided to get help. Ashamed and afraid my family would eventually find out I decided to start going to a twelve step program. It’s only been a few months and progress has been slow but as of today I’m two weeks sober.

It wasn’t easy and with the stress from it plus work today I sought a meeting on my off night. Usually I spend the weekends at the center, hit it on Tuesdays just for good measure. But tonight, Thursday, I felt like relapse was a hair’s breadth from happening so I hit the meeting immediately after work. I walked in and poured a cup of coffee, sat in the circle with my back to the door and lit my cigarette. The meeting at just started, fresh faces, confessions, and new support. I was starting to feel easier when a late arrival came in.

I didn’t turn to look as I was listening to a share. I took another drag of my smoke as you sat down across from me. It took a few minutes before we made eye contact but when we did I felt my blood run cold and my face flush immediately.
