[M4F] as [GM4A] Every good adventurer needs a good adventuring party!
You can't help but groan as you sprint through the streets towards the Adventurer's Guild-- you can already see full-sized groups on their way in and out of town on their next quests. So many of them have already banded together, and you'll not likely convince them to take you along with their rosters already so full.
You skid to a stop in front of this building-- an old boarding house and the town's original Town Hall that had been renovated into one another and built on until it was one tall, ramshackle building with many a crooked piece of wood sticking out. A place for adventurers to rest up, hook up, and most importantly? Team up.
You skidded to a stop under the little awning-covered corkboards, littered with posters and notes and notices-- all for the adventurers within. On the left, an over-crowded collection of quest posters bristled, layers thick enough to stop an arrow before it reached the cork.
On the right however, was a scant few posters advertising the individuals and groups seeking more people for their quests. Slim pickings, but nobody seemed ENTIRELY undesirable. Yet.
You could even see the people who had put the posters up. Most of them were hanging around just WAITING for someone to pick them.
Obviously, the first person you see is the most ordinary one-- a handsome human boy of average height and decently strong-looking stature. He's got a sword, a chestplate... and a thick bulge running down one pant-leg. Still, he stands with an odd gait and shifts uncomfortably from time to time, frequently adjusting his belt and pants. Something going on there...
Then there's the towering mountain of muscle-- the handsome Minotaur by the fountain looks like he's not working with anyone yet. Maybe it's the horns, maybe its the gold piercings, maybe its the sinister battle axe buried in the flagstones... but even as he relaxes in the sunlight, he's pretty intimidating.
Meditating in the middle of the plaza is certainly a bold choice, but the girl with the blue harem pants and the bandaged chest seems unbothered by the bustle around her, even ignoring some people when they approach and ask to team up. Perhaps she's waiting for the right person... perhaps she's not waiting at all. Regardless, she's real cute, and martial artists make great allies.
The loudest voices in the plaza belong to a fluffy, rather cute-looking Gnoll and a similarly good-looking Hobgoblin --both male-- who are very clearly disagreeing on something in another language. If you spoke a mix of snarling, barking, and fox-like chirping, you'd probably be able to tell if it was regular guy stuff like "tits or ass," or if they were disagreeing on what quest to take next. The handful of posters scattered on the ground suggested the latter... though, judging by the repeated hefting gestures the Gnoll was making, it was probably "tits or ass."
In the shady alleyway between the original buildings, two figures in gothic dress have a quiet discussion. A short-haired girl in boyish red clothes, alongside a near-identical, but long-haired one in a dark purple dress. Sisters, certainly, but something about them screams trouble. Maybe it's the dressing like vampires. Maybe its the fact that the poster says they're a "Blood Mage" and a "Dhampir Berserker." Maybe it's just twin vibes. Still... might be worth it.
OK, definitely working together but... how cute are those two? A green-cloaked elf sitting on the edge of the fountain, gently stroking her companion's hair as a handsome young man in rags and chains sits in front of her? Textbook adventurer couple, you're guessing a Ranger and... some kind of tank, probably. Maybe they'd be interested in a third-- a proper caster, perhaps a Druid?
Astonishingly, there's a party still sitting down inside the building, eating a leisurely breakfast and advertising for anyone of a "faithful and furious dispostion." You see a red-haired Valkyrie stretching her wings as they eat, wearing only a chainmail bikini; a strapping young Paladin in partial plate armor, clean-shaven and square-jawed; and an itty-bitty Priestess in astonishingly skimpy robes sleepily enjoying a hot drink with a smile. They seem like a cheerful, tightly-knit bunch, perhaps they'd be a good choice.
A little blonde Halfling sits by the door, her alchemy kit out on the table in front of her, delicately pouring things from bottle to bottle as she worked. Beside her, sitting cross-legged on the ground and hanging his head, was a stitched-together mountain of a man with a curtain of black hair, and quivering on the table next to her is a very nervous blue blob you can only assume is a tamed Slime, occasionally extruding a pseudopod to grab a treat off her tray off baked goods. Impressive... but Alchemists always want to take boring quests...
You'd be hard-pressed to ignore the group of three gathered in a circle right in the middle of the whole mess-- they look like they couldn't be MORE ready. A burly man, heavily-armed and armored, goes over a set of quests and bounties with his party: a dark-skinned woman in a breastplate that looks painfully tight on her, the largest crossbow you've ever seen on her back, and a pale woman cleaning a musket with slow, careful strokes. Would they even take another person, when there's already three of them?
You look down at the quest poster in your hand-- the one you want to take on. The words "Minimum Party Size: Two (2) Adventurers" jump up at you. You need to get a PARTNER, at least. Even if you COULD handle it alone, they won't pay out the reward for completing it-- you might as well just be graverobbing at that point.
You can see them starting to eye one another as well as you-- mentally making their own judgements and considerations. You better pick while the pickings are only slim-- or you'll have no-one to pick from.
Good luck. You'll need it.
