In 1979, a 20-year-old Madonna posed nude for a photography class. Six years later, once she was famous, Playboy and Penthouse went to war over the photos, both magazines racing to beat each other onto newsstands. She never saw a cent.

Federal rules at the time simply wouldn't let a nudist magazine print pubic hair, and showing it risked getting the entire issue pulled from the mail, the printer investigated and the publisher hauled into federal court.
Mary Nolan rose from a Ziegfeld girl to Hollywood star. She had a relationship with the notorious MGM fixer Eddie Mannix, he beat her so badly she needed fifteen surgeries and became addicted to morphine. When she sued him, the studio buried her. She died broke and forgotten at 45.

The magazine's real name was Suck: The First European Sex Paper, forced into that title after the UK banned it before a single issue was even printed, pushing the whole operation to Amsterdam. Greer wrote under the alias Earth Rose and insisted on featuring male bodies as often as female ones. It only lasted eight issues, ending in 1974 with her own resignation letter. Full story here
