We've got one Yipes, we don't need multiple poundland versions of him.

Weekly FGC commentary earrape post.

We had a brief period with Logan and Jammerz yesterday and it was transcendental. Commentary that actually had some level of real time insight. Since then we've had Yipes, who still has his style even through the Esports castration, and various +1s who act like fawnining cosplay Yipes fanboys. Rynge was straight up appropriating his whole ass.

If they just had one of the Bri'ish lads on each match partnered with one hype goblin I wouldn't have to learn Japanese/just go deaf.

I need to vent about commentators and ELECTRONIC SPORTS

i think i reached breaking point this evo. i'm fully checked out with this bizarre middle ground they all try and occupy where they have this whole "yo it's me your bro, it's so good to be here hanging out", before instantly switching into tshirt cannon chipotle shout out mode.

if you want to do the whole glassy eyed ESPN professional thing, sure go for it, i'm sure the sponsors will continue to give you work as long as you maintain the driest, corpo, bag getting, self disrespecting version of yourself, but if you're doing that don't try and be my bro. you're just another professional doing a job, even if you're still wearing a ($100) printed t shirt under your goofy ass blazer. i don't care who you're there to catch up with.

it's the hypocrisy that gets to me. they want this energy like they're just cutting loose over comms shooting shit with the FGC like they're at their local, but that's just a thin veneer of sincerity. they wouldn't dare actually speak their mind at any point. they're there to keep the show going and the cheques to keep coming. i've had the common sense to just ignore it for the white noise it is, but this year i started to tune into just how ugly and two faced the whole performance is.

and then comes the empty hype beasting. getting people to chant "good ass tekken" like it's a fucking disney singalong before the top 8 has even started after reading an advert pre-written on a cue card word for word like you have a gun to your head. repeating how amazing the scene/event/players/people there are for the 50th time in the same top 8, acting like you're making some profound statement while just killing time before the next ad break.

i don't know man, this doesn't matter, none of this matters, just needed to vent. this shit absolutely does my head in. it's we've all just come to accept it's normal now for someone to present themselves as an authentic grass roots voice of the FGC before staring straight down the lens and a waxing a predatory gigacorp at a saudi owned event. nah bro, pick one path or the other.

i'd barely played T8 since the S2 patch and i was hoping to jump back in with s3, but the dooming after it came out put me off so i just went back to the VF6 waiting room. SF6 on the other hand seem to have this massive narrative of success and despite there being a lot of heads who are done with the green slime meta and that one toxic SNK bitch, there's still a huge amount of enthusiasm behind the game. the sentiment generally seems to be that SF6 is the right way to do it and T8 the wrong way to do it. you hear this from T8 players more than anything.

but then i watch shit like the recent capcom cup and evo japan finals and SF6 is random as fuck, the best players in the game repeatedly drown in pools while there seems to be a raffle for a new GOAT every month. On the other hand T8 despite being this wasteland of bad vibes keeps having legitimately good finals where the consistent best players in the game have really good sets.

after sampling T8 in the last few days, if you're playing long sets against a friend whose habits you are familiar with then t8 is way more fun and can be legit honest, but in ranked it's still a cesspool of 8 million different random +on block guessing games that lead into heat bullshit. SF6 feels the same playing ranked as against a friend, you're generally making the same guesses and reads against minor variations of the same situation. it's repetitive but you generally always know what cards you can play, compared with T8 where it feels like a poker game with UNO and tarot cards mixed in.

i've seen to be a slight upturn in sentiment towards t8 after S3 took a shit on them, maybe it'll be in good place before VF6 comes out in 2040.
