They run. Quick.silent. Down the drainage ditches meandering between subdivisions. Down the bike paths, the dead-quiet streets, new asphalt shiny black in the moonlight.

The dogs don’t bark. They can smell the invaders. Pampered suburban purebreds large and small alike find places to cower and shiver. They smell something they recognized form their own past… from their deep, deep past, from before they were wolves even….

The creatures howl to each other, across the endless deserts of track housing. The sound makes the Owners of pathetic human balls that hear it shrivel up, cold and submissive, whimpering for mercy. Human females had a somewhat different reaction.
