Tornado Pitting Update | Vestratto Reputation Precedes

Just wanted to post an update on my last post. I think some people weren't 100% sure on the credibility of the post 🀷, so I definitely want to double-down on it. For starters, I was using a Blazer Big Buddy, and I didn't think too much of it given it's basically a purpose-built dabbing torch. Second point, no I wasn't using salt-iso baths for cleaning. And no, I never left the piece soaking for more than 5 minutes at a time. And yes, it was high quality iso (91%).

I actually ended up polishing the unit with Simichrome (considered the best in the industry by many) on the same day that I emailed Vestratto. And this polishing agent I've had since since the year before (purchased specifically for the Nado), but I opted not to polish thinking the the chromium oxidized layer of the SS was enough to protect the metal more than polishing ever could. Well, I was wrong about that, and I might recommend any flamers out there to possibly consider polishing their Nado if they haven't already.

As far as the Vestratto CS goes, after over a month of emails, I have given up hope on any sort of service from the company. I was initially offered an RMA, and I refused since I didn't want to ship the piece to Canada (on my expense). About a month later, with no reply to my last reply, I asked if they'd offer me a discount on a 2nd piece instead vs an RMA. And since I had polished the unit myself, I asked if it was safe to keep using the original piece. They asked for pictures to see how it's holding up, and I sent them through Imgur to avoid attaching pictures to the email. CS replied to send the pictures in PDF format since they're unable to open the images posted on Imgur! πŸ€” I decided to be professional, and I actually did send them the pictures in PDF format, but I'm pretty they're just playing games, and I don't actually expect anything to come of it.

So anyways, that's that. Will probably NOT be ordering from the company ever again. There's a good reason why you have to waive all your rights to shop on their store.

Sticking to IH use now. But do keep in mind they're not immune from damage if you simply use an IH instead. I've seen some heavy damage on a Tornado that used an Inductor as an IH LOL The thing was HEAVILY tarnished. And I also have noticed some discoloration since I started using the YLL 3.0 @ 100w.

So, would I recommend a Tornado? No. Will I keep using this Tornado for the foreseeable future? Probably. It's a love-hate relationship now. πŸ’”πŸ₯Ή

After 5 years with the Wand, YLL 3.0 enters the room to spice things up

Just got this yesterday. Really loving it. Everything. The looks and the performance. Basically everything you wanted the Wand to be, and more. It's not a complete replacement to the Wand, since the Wand does have a few things in its favor (portability and a punch-hole design), but if I could only buy one or the other in this day and age, it would probably be the 3.0 since the Wand can be finicky and likes to error out depending on battery charge and device depth.

My cork heat shield now has another use, keeping the Nado from bottoming out when I remove the ceramic insert meant for height adjustment, leaving about 1mm before it touches the lid on the backside.

Paid $103 with batteries + $16 for an extra set of 21700s.

I ran about 8 bowls yesterday (tiny bowls under .1g) and battery life is at 4 of 5 bars.

No comments on the built-in charger since I'm using an external charger. Not sure how much it helps to charger externally -- all I can say is, I've always charged my 18650s externally, and my Wand still works after almost 5 years.

Edit:

For the those curios about the USB-C charging option, this thing pulls 18w. For reference, my old Nitecore D4 pulls 10-12w charging a pair of 18650s @ 750mA each.

And last. After a few bowls today I'm already down to 2 bars. Not that I need them, but I might pickup some P50Bs down the line. BTW, the P50Bs are rated for 1400 cycles @ 100 watts 😲
