I recently posted a survey here (and a few other subreddits) to gather some data on fetishes and how they develop. I thought it would be nice to post some of the data here (leaving out the more personal and serious stuff).
Some notable findings:
1: people who were considered to be "gifted" or very smart during childhood are far more likely to develop kinks/ fetishes (3 different surveys, 1000+ people back this up). However i have not yet surveyed a community where being "submissive" did not win significantly over being "dominant". My theory is that people who were put under a lot of pressure to succeed in early life find comfort in sexual situations in which they are told what to do/ think.
2: scent and taste were CRAZY high (no surprises there), however sound was also a lot higher than expected. although the baseline for normal does not have a control group so take it with a grain of salt.
3: I was really surprised to see how unpopular "disgust/ discomfort" was. I expected (given the nature of the subreddit being focused around body odor) that disgust would be top 5. My theory is that the appeal isn't the fact that body odor is "disgusting" but instead;
- the ability for it's perceived disgustingness to be used as a tool to dominate others sexually
and...
- the comfort of another's scent being a deeply intimate and primal desire (hence the high preference of "Caretaking (Receiving)")
LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS TO ADD TO THE SURVEY, OR ANY LARGE NSFW SUBREDDITS THAT WOULD BE CHILL WITH THIS KINDA THING!!!
