Broken Neck REPAIR
Hi Everyone, as you all may know I recently received a broken Audrey 3.0 Doll with a broken neck joint/other defects. Thankfully MochiXP & Mr L Doll have been able to arrange a new Audrey for me that’s on its way. Fantastic customer service from both companies. MochiXP being a confirmed licensed Distributor by Daisy
Anyway they gave me permission to keep the damaged body so decided to have a go at fixing the neck. Here’s how I managed to do that:
I first used some side cutters to chop the stretched out spring that was protruding from the neck. So separating the connector piece that goes into the head.
Then using those side cutters I use it to grab the bits of metal spring sticking out of the head connector piece and slowly pull it and then chop them until there’s some what of a clear hole in the middle and there’s no metal spring pieces sticking out.
On the body side, I slowly peeled the silicone around the neck joint downwards (it shouldn’t rip and has just enough flexibility to be rolled out like a sock).
There you’ll find the stretched spring pieces but also a metal rod. That’s the key.
Next, insert the trimmed neck connector piece onto the head sculpt. Adjust bearing if necessary using included Allen key tool. Then go ahead and measure it up towards the body to see how much of the remaining stretched spring you’d need to trim or see my photos.
After measuring up and seeing where the neck piece needs to sit so that the head is in the right position, get those side cutters ready again. Start cutting the excess/stretched spring pieces until the metal rod in the body is exposed at the appropriate height. You can remove the connector piece from the head sculpt, peel back the silicone on the body to more accurately see how much of the stretched spring you’d need to trim.
Then with the neck connector piece try to push it/get it started on the metal rod in the body. Once it’s somewhat in, get a small tapping hammer or a tiny hammer and start to gently whack it down onto the metal rod. As you’re doing this make sure to peel the silicone back and try and make the cut pieces of spring sit inside the neck connector piece so that it’s not cutting the silicone in the future/damaging it. Don’t worry if the threads on the neck connector piece get damaged when hammering as the head sculpt connects via the little ball bearing. It doesn’t thread/screw on.
After that you should be all done. You may have to adjust the ball bearings using the included little Allen key to ensure the head sculpt clicks on with some effort but isn’t so loose that it would fall off during play.
I’ve used my damaged Audrey a few times so far and her head seems to be in place rather nicely. The neck piece doesn’t move and seems to be firmly in place thanks to it being hammered on. You can still move the head around as well.
Additional damages that I had to fix up were some cuts on the silicone neck caused by the damaged neck connector. In addition to a cut on her wrist as the silicone was made too thin there so broke apart when fitting her clothes. Managed to sort these using some Smooth-On SillPoxy. Lastly just some decal defects on Audrey’s face which were sorted with a High Quality Japanese fine point Pilot Permanent Marker Pen.
Hopefully your repair is as successful as mine :)
Oh and I do plan on listing this Audrey for sale soon once my replacement arrives. Will make a separate post later.
