Had a lot of requests asking how I make this style so here's a quick guide - Images in body aren't censored
Step 1 - Find or film a clip
- Avoid clips that have movement in the camera, a little movement might be fine but too much will ruin the effect.
- Have detail in the background, plain walls are the easiest to re-create but leave nothing for the displacement effect to work with.
- Try to find clips where the person moves around the frame, again, this gives the displacement more to work with to sell the effect.
Step 2 - Re-create the background
One of the harder parts of the process if you're not filming the clips yourself. Use different frames through the video to stitch together the background as much as you can, sometimes it's not possible so it might be worth filling it in with AI
Step 3 - Create a mask
The subject needs to be cut out of the video so the effect is only applied to them. There's loads of different tools that can do this, I use Davinci Resolve Studio with the magic mask, Filmora is what I used to use and I've heard people talk about runwayML, but I haven't used it. You're looking for tools that do automatic rotoscoping - unless you really want to do it by hand...
Step 4 - Connect everything together
This will change based on the video editor that you use, this is how I do it in Davinci Resolve
These are the settings I used for the displacement, feel free to modify until you get a result you like
Step 5 - Cut out any extras
Repeat step 3 for clothes and or hair and layer on top of the result from the last step
