Pierrot & Columbina's relationship?

with the new AMA released on Tumblr, I have sorta a new question? this is about Columbina and Pierrot's relationship before she died.
were they officially a couple or was it a one sideded love (obsession) on Pierrot's part?
I've always assumed it was like first love or they were a cute couple until now.
perhaps Columbina never truly saw Pierrot as a lover fully? sorta reads like affection and love given to a family member or someone close. maybe it wasn't as one-sided but perhaps just closeness.....?? was their relationship PRECIVED as lovers??? in the AMA, she seems extremely kind and giving of her love. (she's so cute) her kindness and love was so freely given because she wanted to see more of it in the world, but the world is unkind and it attracted the wrong kind of people instead. that sort of mirrors MC's current relationship with Pierrot no?
so I'm really curious what are people's thoughts on their relationship! it seems so ambiguous to me? nothing is ever fully spelt out and certain things are overlooked because nothing is ever fully said....
(from my own knowledge of the Commedia dell'arte I am also aware that Pierrot pines for Columbine and ultimately she ends up with Harlequin. however in some interpretations, Pierrot finds his own Pierrette and if his affections are returned they sit on the moon together finding comfort in each other. of course, I'm not so sure it has much to do with TFC's cast and story officially, but I do find some parellels in these dynamics.)
