Disclosure first: I built one of the apps below (Jizzy). Not pretending to be neutral. But

I've used all of these for months and I'll be straight about where each one wins, including

where mine loses. Founder post, so downvote and move on if that's not your thing.

The lay of the land in 2026:

Replika — the OG, big community, still solid for emotional connection. The thing people miss:

if you made your account before Feb 2023 you can roll it back to the old model that does

romance/ERP. New accounts are stuck on the filtered version with no way around it. And even a

legacy account is one policy update away from changing on you.

Character.AI — free, genuinely great writing, massive character library. Still filtered in

2026 though. They moved to intent-based moderation plus age verification, so a verified adult

gets a little more room, but explicit stuff gets blocked almost every time. Great for SFW

roleplay. Dead end for anything adult.

Nomi — this one confuses people so let me be clear. Nomi has the best long-term memory of

anything out there, remembers things from months back, does voice calls, feels like a real

ongoing relationship. But it is NOT an explicit app. It calls itself "unfiltered" but won't

actually go NSFW the way the spicy apps do. Incredible emotional companion, wrong pick if you

want heat.

Candy AI — biggest name right now and the image generation is legit the best, photorealistic

selfies. The catch is the bill. It advertises around $4/mo but runs on image token packs, and

people report actually spending $25-130/mo once they're generating pics regularly. Great

images, watch your wallet.

SpicyChat / CrushOn — the cheap-to-free NSFW route. SpicyChat has a huge character library and

a real free tier, CrushOn's about $6/mo fully unrestricted. Both properly uncensored. They're

more character-roleplay grab-bag than a consistent girlfriend, and depth varies a lot from one

character to the next.

Jizzy (mine) — what I went for: actually uncensored (it's a web app, so it's not boxed in by

App Store content rules), and the companion sends real photos/videos that build with the

relationship instead of dumping everything on message one. The part I'd actually point at: the

whole first week is free and it doesn't ask for a credit card. No card up front means no

surprise auto-charge when the week's up, you just use it for a week and decide for yourself.

[If true: after that it's a flat sub, not Candy-style image token packs, so the bill doesn't

balloon. CONFIRM before you post this line.]

Where mine honestly loses: it's newer and smaller.Nomi still beats it. Biggest character library, SpicyChat. Most polished images and you

don't mind the token bill, Candy.

Who each is for:

- Emotional companion, best memory → Nomi

- Free SFW roleplay → Character.AI

- Legacy Replika romance → only if you already have the old account

- Best images, budget no object → Candy

- Cheap/free unrestricted RP → SpicyChat / CrushOn
