“This has to be fake,” Tony mumbled to himself, turning the cartridge over in his hands.
Pokémon: Gardevoir Green.
He’d never heard of it but the listing had been vague—“Rare prototype. Works on original Game Boy. Sold as-is.”—and the bid had been surprisingly low. Curiosity won. He placed the final offer.
Three days later the package arrived.
Tony sat on the edge of his bed, Game Boy already loaded with batteries. The cartridge felt heavier than a normal one, the plastic slightly warmer than it should have been. The label was faded, the artwork showing a serene Gardevoir. He slid it into the slot with a soft click.
The screen lit up.
Then it flared.
A blinding white light exploded from the tiny display, so intense it felt like it burned straight through his eyes. Tony threw a hand up, but the light was already everywhere. His body locked. A strange, deep pressure bloomed in his chest, then raced outward in every direction.
When the light finally faded, the Game Boy was gone.
Tony staggered, nearly falling. His center of gravity felt completely wrong. He looked down—and froze.
Two small, perky breasts rose and fell with his panicked breathing. Between them, protruding from the center of his chest, was a smooth, glossy red spike—exactly like the one every Gardevoir had. His skin was pale white, almost luminous. Long, elegant green “hair” framed his face and flowed down his back like a living veil. His arms ended in graceful, three-fingered hands of the same soft green. From the waist down he wore what looked like a flowing white gown fused directly to his body, the fabric-like material ending just above slender legs.
He opened his mouth to scream.
“Gardevoir!”
The word came out high, melodic, and completely involuntary.
Tony’s eyes widened in pure horror. He tried again.
“Gardevoir—! Gardevoir!”
Nothing else would come out. Every attempt to speak, every frantic thought, left his lips as the same single word.
He stumbled over to the full-length mirror on his closet door and stared.
A Gardevoir stared back.
The face was still recognizably his in the structure of the eyes and the shape of the mouth, but everything else had been rewritten into the elegant, feminine form of the Pokémon. The red chest spike sat prominently between the two small, soft breasts. The gown-like lower body swayed gently with every panicked breath. His new hands trembled as he raised them to touch the spike, then the curve of one breast. Both felt warm and real.
“Gardevoir…” he whispered again, voice shaking.
He had no idea what had happened.
One moment he had been a twenty-something guy who still loved Pokémon. The next, he was standing in his bedroom as a living Gardevoir, unable to say anything except his new name, perky breasts and a body that no longer felt like his own.
Tony—now Gardevoir—sank slowly to the floor in front of the mirror, staring at the reflection that refused to change back.
