I was circumcised almost six months ago and specifically requested a high cut to preserve more inner foreskin. Unfortunately, I was not informed that retaining a larger amount of inner foreskin can significantly increase the risk of persistent postoperative lymphedema/chronic swelling. Despite being otherwise healthy, I developed permanent edema of the inner foreskin that has never resolved and now requires revision surgery to remove the chronically swollen tissue.

This is not just a rare theoretical complication. Persistent swelling of retained inner foreskin appears to occur in a substantial minority of high-cut patients — estimates around 20% have been reported in some discussions and surgical experiences. Patients considering a high circumcision should be clearly warned that preserving more inner mucosa may come with a materially higher risk of chronic edema, prolonged healing issues, cosmetic dissatisfaction, and possible need for revision surgery.
