Maybe I'm missing something, but it feels like people love titles more than the responsibility that comes with them.
Everyone wants to be seen as a leader, a provider, a protector, a mentor, a person of value. Everybody talks a big game. Everybody wants loyalty, attention, affection, support, and access to your time and energy.
But the second there's even the smallest expectation of reciprocity, suddenly it's a problem.
It's wild how often people expect others to invest emotionally, mentally, sexually into them while contributing the absolute bare minimum themselves. The confidence disappears, the generosity disappears, and all the grand promises disappear.
Words are cheap. Consistency isn't. Effort isn't. Generosity isn't.
