[A4A] Notches [Poetry Offer] [Previous Relationship] [Angst]
You weren't just another notch in my belt
Though I've tried to make a few since you left
But the leather's too thick
It won't bend to my will
Or my dull, rusty knife
I struggle to cut through
Until, exasperated, I give up
My pants sag with every step
And I hike them back up again
A Sisyphean task
Sometimes, I wish the boulder would just crush me instead
The bags under my eyes carry too much
They wouldn't be allowed on a plane
Let alone a soul
There's a haze in the air today
Wildfire smoke blowing south
You lit a fire in me, then quenched it
Efficient forestry
I'll give you that
