Is sex really important?

so me(20M) and my girlfriend (21F) have been together for a year now and we haven't done it yet...

to be honest we dont really get much chances to do it, since we both live in hostels and the wardens here are pretty strict, even holding hands is a luxury....

going outside is also v rare for us because her father is v strict, you can imagine we went outside like 3 times in this whole year and for that too she had to beg for permission (obviously she had to lie for going out)....

also she's pretty scared of 2 things, first her parents knowing it and second the "pain" she thinks she will have to endure during sex....

earlier (during first month of talking stage) she told me that she'll do this stuff only after marriage since she cant trust anyone to stay that long which was (and is still) right in my opinion aswell so i told her , yeah you good to go!

now she's a year senior to me, she will leave the clg in lile 2 years and i will take 3 years... after that she will go to some clg for pg and I will go somehwere for my pg and the chances r very slim that we will go in same clg (there are lot of branches in pg so yeah)...

now i personally think that having sex strengthens your bond as a couple and is v much required for a relationship to succeed ... and i have discussed this w her aswell but acc to her she's not the regular girl and her attachment wont diminish even if we go long distance for 4 years (which is the estimated time if we dont go in same pg clg).... i dont trust her on this to be v honest, tho i trust her the most in this world rn but still, people change, situations change....

what do you think? how imp is sex for a healthy relationship? and can someone sustain long distance for around 4 years after being together for like 3-4 years????
