Neurodivergence, Sexuality, and Sex Work: Is There a Connection?
Hi there - I just got out of a toxic relationship four years ago. If any of you are familiar with meditative practices I did a lot of shadow work during the heart break. There's a part of me that wanted to remain buried. The more something gets repressed the louder it speaks. In my early twenties I seen a lot of sex workers.
It was something I was deeply ashamed about. It was a way for me to get a release from having a hyperdriven libido. I went to strip clubs. Brothels. I thought it would be something that would just go away as I got older. My family and friends don't know that I seen sex workers.
I might do some reading around this forum later. After my break up I decided to go back to strip clubs. Eventually started seeing escorts. My life has not been traditional. I was late diagnosed in life as autistic. Having been around sex workers I've picked up on other neurodivergent traits. I've given thought to being a sex worker as I love sex and very much anti-relationship. I love my alone time.
From strip clubs I observed these are high salience environments. The type of environment thats stimulating like a nightclub or rave. Neurodivergent people are often sensory seekers. A strip club gave me a safe place to explore and gain exposure.
By exposure I mean getting to know what I like. Its not always the big boobied barbie. Its the theatrical bottle girl. To each their own. As a man I want to desensitize myself to pedestalizing beautiful woman altogether.
A dancer once told me that a strip club is where the roles are defined and dancers are often straightforward. Having to erase guessing games about if she or doesn't like you. Its a transactional relationship. No strings attached. To the neurodivergent mind this is compatible with it.
I'd love to here what you have to say about neurodivergence and sex work. Are the clients that you see neurodivergent?
