Consequences of a second hand haustoric implant?
I'm planning out a fic (no idea if it'll be anything worth posting in the end) where one of the key points is an Affini that has chosen to exile themselves from the compact for a while out of grief due to an accident that caused their floret to die (basically she never went back to the main ship and is staying on the planet where it happened on her own. Naturally though, as these stories go, a new human practically stumbles into their care blah blah blah. The idea is to explore a situation where the Affini in question doesn't have the limitless ressources like working compilers and community resources, but she still has that urge to care and do her best with what she can scrounge up on a semi-hostile world, trying to shield the new floret from it all, and likely she'll have to end to exile for the floret's sake at some point later in the plot.
Anyhow with all of that context out of the way, at one point i'm thinking that this affini could try taking the hauristic implant from the admittedly pristinely preserved deceased floret (at least the core of it) and implant it into the new floret. After all, those things aren't exactly easy to make. Naturally, I think that this has juicy potential for neurological issues and consequences, and may lead to an eventual medical emergency that forces the Affini out of exile, but I was wondering if this sepecific aspect had been explored before. Otherwise, any ideas I can inspire myself from?
Edit : Secondary question. Once back on a Affini Compact ship, I assume that this operation would be seen as gross negligence at the very least. What happens in cases where an Affini is considered unfit to own a Floret? Has that happened in a fic?
