Due to family in town, I can't use my normal setup at all and won't have any privacy for 2 months. Will I make it that long?

I'm interested in upgrading to solid metal (stainless) rings but the cost is pretty high and I'm worried about buying the wrong size. For anyone who's upgraded, would you say solid metal rings are worth it? I'm a little worried about a non perfectly round shaft fitting into a perfectly round ring if you know what I mean. I'm afraid using the wrong size will be too tight and too large would not make full contact all the way around, creating painful hot spots. Should I bite the bullet and invest in one? 5'8" 170lbs fairly small or below average I would say. I'm leaning toward a 38mm.
