What a beautiful community to find. [M]

I really am thrilled to find this sub, and really intrigued to chat with everyone. I'm a witch, occultist and self-portrait artist. I spent many years in the evangelical church - several in them in a cult - and my love for the occult and witchcraft (as well as my sensuality) was shamed out of me. It has taken me a long time to deconstruct, and now start to reconstruct, who I am as a person.

I know that the occult, witchcraft and photography are a huge part of who I want that person to be. I'm using self-potraits to heal...and doing so in large part by exploring the topics that I love but find hard to bring up in conversation.

I'm going to go scroll through your posts and will see you in the comments 🖤✨

Neon Nights

Well, I didn't plan a second shoot today, but if I'm being honest I'm just really feeling my lights at the moment.

Again, a 10 euro RGB ring light behind me to the left. On the right, a 15 euro strip light (those sticky ones that come on a roll) stuck to the back of my bookshelf. I was going to add a little warm fill light, but decided against it. Didn't need it.

Angles + a wider aperture (f/2.0) are what make this shot. The reason being, when you shoot things that aren't in focus, they get a little bit bigger than if they were sharp. With lights, they not only get bigger but they diffuse and get more glowy.

IMO bigger and glowy lights = better, so I set up to ensure that both the ring light and the strip light would be out of focus.

Other than that, just my usual rolling around while the intervalometer goes. Actually, I did try to time pausing my poses better with the intervals. I'm shit at that, but as of today on my way to getting better.

Peace and love 🖤✨

It is at this hour that the flesh says its prayers...and hears unholy orders in response...

"A very fruitful field for grotesque art is afforded by the manifestations of witchcraft and demonology. Fear, secrecy, and converse with evil powers, were characteristic elements of this mysterious cult, which is as old as man. These elements are of the very substance of the grotesque. The early wood engravers did much with themes derived from witchcraft. Brueghel has worked with this material; so also has Goya; but little has been done with it by photographers. Over-consciousness of the literal limitations of their medium has perhaps held some back from entering this unrealistic and imaginative field. But this very quality of unrealism should be a challenge to a photographer who wishes to pass beyond the conventionally accepted realism of the camera.

My neighbours definitely think I'm starting a sex cult at this point...

Just wait until I have the coven over for a full moon ritual 🌚
