Surgery prep workout buddies - SF Bay Area

Hoping to make the most of my next few months of no surgery before upsizing my balls and a final mons adjustment to hopefully wrap up my phallo process by the turn of the year. I signed up for some workout classes through my local community college for free at the advice of others in this thread after realizing many of the community colleges around here are at least fall free if you’ve been a resident a year. Would love to connect with other guys who are in the journey and trying to keep our bodies moving in the process; I’m primarily a jogger or yoga kind of person, but signed up for a swim class, basketball & ju jitsu for the fall term and am open to other activities to try as a group. Local to the Bay, relocating for surgery, or just coming for a consult? comment or DM me for an IRL workout buddy! :)

2nd Successful Workout Post- ED Placement : Power Vinyasa

6.5 weeks post op pump placement, and after my first successful jog yesterday since being cleared for cycling my pump, jogging & physical activity if it feels good, figured I’d go for my favorite power vinyasa class since it’s heated, queer friendly, low lighting, and encouraging of doing what level feels best for you.

Yesterday I wore sheath underwear 7 or 8 inch inseam, which was good for holding everything in place while standing&running, but noticed feeling the pump do it’s sorta internal popping when I would sit As the shaft was pulled thru the front hole fabric. with that in mind, I opted for the sepratecs I have 1 size too big so nothing was too constricted but would sorta hold it forward & avoid shaft pinch between leg & pump bulb accidentally pumping me.

class overall felt really good. for yogis, I’m gonna share more about the poses I was a bit nervous about so may wanna skip this technical paragraph if not interested— we started in warm up with a transition from twisted low lizard -lizard lunge R - yogi squat - lizard lunge L, twisted. reminded myself to engage my pelvic floor and everything felt great transitioning to low twisted lizard kicking into the foot even. abs we did bicycles, boat twists & mountain climbers with opposite knees to opposite elbows. I decided to not go for double time mountain climbers since my shoulders were already struggling to keep alignment over wrists. Flow was down dog, right leg high, sage 2, one legged plank, runners lunge, warrior 2, extended side angle, half moon, standing splits, runners lunge, chaturanga. I noticed sorta soreness in what seemed to be my left hip flexor unrelated to ed placement as we transitioned from runners to the warrior 2 legs, and just took this transition easy from the start on both sides. For chaturanga, I alternated with doing some on my knees, some with my hands a little lower on my chest, and others hands more at shoulders; updog not pressing my hips down into the floor. Balance section was working up to peak pose bound side angle, then transitioning to bound half moon or just level 1 half moon. Bound side angle felt great, was locked in with the arm bind level 4, chest open looking up for the 8-10 breaths we were there. tried for grabbing a strap to get to the bound half moon but tbh don’t think bound half moon has ever been in my practice so it was mostly balance play with the strap. standing splits again (great, rear leg could really feel toes reaching up to ceiling, weight in hands), & handstand which was cued up with L hops & L floats, but I used as a chance to step out and get more water. then we did chaturanga all the way down to floor bow, I was gentle to land, then didn’t wanna weigh into hips hard so I bent knees and reached back with my arms to open chest but didnt grab feet / kick. This was honestly the pose I was most worried about and it felt fine, and the windshield wiper legs after felt good, again just keeping mindful of weight more in belly & thighs, not hips. pushed up to camel, which I stuck in level one for form, but imagine would have been amazing if I would have opened legs a little wider and gone for elbows to the mat. Sometimes I get dizzy coming up, or panic and roll out to one side when I get down with my back to the mat in camel, so I wanted to avoid til I was more confident in my lower abs/pelvic floor/hip flexibility before I tried it. Long flow integrated everything and I opted for puppy pose instead of some chaturangas, and did most of the rest on my knees or with the lower hand placement. Lbvs, I / we were all pretty gassed by then 🤣 cool down had child’s pose, which was surprisingly pain free again, felt great to massage lower back by rocking & kicking, then reclined spinal twist which was less rotation than normal, but felt good.

overall, really thought I wouldn’t make the whole class, was dripping before we even finished opening meditation and the teacher said the thermostat got as hot as 114, but was pleasantly surprised at how much I was able to do, pain free.

Successful first jog post op ED

hit the 6 week milestone with my pump, was cleared to deflate & jog, so as long as there’s no pain. proceeded to warm up & go for what felt like a light, short jog and was shocked to realize after I shaved 45 seconds off my mile time from May 🫨
safe to say I’m feeling more at home in my body than ever before 🤩

Anyone post op tried BOX underwear from the UK?

saw someone selling these on marketplace and was curious because they look quite roomy in the front. I’m seeing now on the manufacturer website they have a sale going on and I wonder if anyone has tried them and has any feedback? Bonus points if you have the pump ED.

Medline Factory Fire Impacts (CA)

for those who missed the headline, yesterday, a million square foot Medline warehouse in Tracy, CA burned down, a total loss. Medline is one of the top producers of medical supplies, particularly those used in surgeries. Yesterday afternoon, I called my gender clinic in Northern California to see if I could get a pre-op supply box for my surgery next week, and was told they were in limited supply and unable to distribute any at this time. Either word travels fast, or this is an ironic coincidence, and I hope neither impacts any of our surgery dates, but it sure could impact our out of pocket expenses as there are less supplies out there in the supply chain, driving costs up.

Dr Chen Bumping Up Surgeries Due to Cancellation

got bumped up a week due to last minute cancellation, maybe you will get a call to get bumped up too, since now my date in a few weeks is open.

good reminder to spread out surgery prep so you’re not left cramming last minute. happy I went grocery shopping last night to stock up on some of my favorite recovery staples!

Debating travel 6 weeks post ED

Looking for insights from folks who got ED, especially folks who needed it removed first 6 weeks.

I’m debating going on a meditative retreat for trans folks in the mountains an hour train + hour flight + hour drive from me. I have attended the retreat center in the past, and know they are very accommodating of folks with accessibility needs, and provide golf cart shuttles to get between the cabins & other buildings on property. My surgeon doesn‘t seem to have many specific instructions beyond keeping the ED supported the first month and no running til 6 weeks, so my main concern is about if it was infected and needed to be removed.

If you’re willing to share, in comment or DM, about needing to get your ED removed in the first 6 weeks, that would be super helpful! Also, if you’re post op ED and didn’t have issues, would you go? Would love to hear others’ reasoning. TIA
