Positive Interaction With Gayle
Hello to all! I was wondering if anyone else around this subreddit has had noticeably positive interactions with Gayle, also known as the regular “pool monitor.”
My mother and I are newer visitors to LDS, and when I first saw her patrol around the pool area, I grew nervous. I have seen quite a number of shaky stories regarding her practices. Thankfully, she was nothing but nice to us during our most recent trip!
Pardon the tangential nature of this paragraph, but it’s worth mentioning that I am a retro tech enthusiast, and I brought along one of those small TV / VCR combos, as well as some original-broadcast Simpsons tapes, to watch while we were eating dinner at the upper-level picnic tables, adjacent to the conversation pool.
Gayle then began walking by, spotted my TV inside of a collapsible wagon which I wheeled inside, and she politely asked us to unload the TV, and leave the wagon outside the gates. That was fine with me, because I had no reason to keep it inside the wagon anyhow, so I immediately did as I was requested.
We then waited until the closest two rows cleared out before turning the TV on, and kept the volume low, because we try to remain good neighbors however we can. A while after that, Gayle came through again, and seemed thoroughly confused by what we were doing. She merely shook her head and walked right off.
She then returned to our table after a short while, and told us she had to verify with upper-management that the use of a TV in the area was allowed, because she has been attending the resort since 1972, yet it was the first time in which she had seen anyone do that. She told us we were fine to continue watching, but that if anyone “higher up than her” complained about it, we would need to shut it off.
From there, we all had a casual conversation with one another, and she was consistently pleasant to talk with. I’ve also seen others complain that she gets persnickety about people covering up around the lounge area adjacent to the water, but I observed her walk past a woman wearing a sarong multiple times, and zero issues arose.
She was also seen taking intricate care of the place, from cleaning up the lounge chairs, swapping out the table center-pieces, and taking out the trash. For the record, she and a man who was accompanying her were the only people I saw tending to the area during our roughly twelve-hour visit. As a matter of fact, the general manager stood outside the gates at one point, called for everyone’s attention out of nowhere, and verbally berated someone who mistakenly parked in an off-limits section, which I honestly saw as rather unprofessional and uncalled for. Point being, people like Gayle seem to be an asset to the well-being of the resort as a whole!
All in all, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice she was to us, given her relatively spotty reputation from other members and reviewers! Has anyone else had positive experiences with her?
TL ; DR - Despite the marginally rocky notoriety of the notorious “pool monitor”, Gayle, I ended up having an enjoyable conversation with her, and I saw her actively keeping the pool area in particularly nice condition. I was wondering if others had honorable interactions with her as well?
