Regret taking Retatrutide?
I originally made this post 2 months ago on r/Retatrutide . However I figured I’ll share what my experience was on it for those considering taking it who also do PE along with an update now that I’m off it.
So I (25 M 6’0 199lbs) have been working out for 6 years and after hitting a major plateau decided to hop on Reta and have been on it for about two and half months so far. I have lost a little under 15lbs. While I have seen weight loss and received positive feedback from people I still have not enjoyed the process as much as I thought I would.
As we all know with taking any medication, there are potential side effects. While taking reta majority of my days I have felt so “blah” and mentally flat. I’m well aware that this is a side effect beca of how the Reta alters the reward system in the brain.
Because of this it has dramatically affected my overall motivation, drive, and discipline for things that normally was not as difficult for me before. One of them being my motivation and discipline for going to the gym. I have still been going to the gym however because my motivation has been lower I’m not pushing myself to go as hard as I normally do in the gym and I stopped doing a lot of my compound lifts. I followed all the necessary steps of gradually increasing the dosage and eating as healthy as I can etc.
Of course from the weight but also because of the mental side effects of the Reta my strength has seen a drastic decrease. A lot of my workouts now feel very much like I’m just going through the motions and able to stay consistent but not really push myself despite taking stuff like caffeine or preworkout. As well as a lot more days of changing my mind and not going to the gym because of how I feel. Not just the gym but a lot of other decisions in my life I have a lot less willpower to try or bother for too long.
This is not normally how I am. I’m usually very consistent and disciplined and I hate breaking promises to myself and feeling defeated. Have I lost weight on Reta? Yes. Do I regret taking Reta? No. Will I take it again in the future? I’m leaning towards No. This is mainly a post to vent about my experience on Reta but if anyone else has been feeling like this on their journey or have any tips/advice please do share.
UPDATE
So at the end of June I got off retatrutide. Now that we’re in August I can confidently say I feel much better and back to myself being off it. My intensity both mentally and physically in the gym is back to where it was before taking Reta. I’m aware that I’m an outlier of those who took it and did not have the greatest experience on Reta. However on my original post there were a lot of people who had similar symptoms and experiences with the peptide. It was definitely a good learning experience and I’m glad I can say I tried it. However I definitely think doing it the natural way is what works best for me. Just thought I’d share my experience on it since a lot of us here do PE and use weight loss as one of the many ways to get bigger.
