Did I get bored waiting for a chance to snap a new pic this morning and re-edit an older pic to up the contrast and end up loving how it ended up? Yes, yes I did.

I figured today I would take a different approach to contrast. Picture one is the pic I took to post. It looks pretty planned and posed and put together. Like the pics we all show on here. But the second pic shows what’s really going on. I’m in baggy Kraken sweatpants, sitting on some rotten stairs left over after demolishing a rotten deck, enjoying my coffee with the birds, not looking nearly as put together. Contrast doesn’t have to be just shadows and light.

Hi Clewdles! You all have been enjoying my Salty Surprises, so we’re thinking it’s going to become a more regular thing, but it’s going to be a little bit different. We’ll still do some themes like we’ve been doing in the group (favorite time of year, swimwear, etc), but the Salty Surprise will be focused on pushing us to be more creative with our photography and give us all more skills to apply to our pics.

So for our first official new style Salty Surprise our theme is CONTRAST. I want to see some high contrast pics, with high lights and low shadows. Some silhouettes. Or a pair of pics that contrast with each other and show two sides of you. Or colors that should not go together, but somehow do. Whatever contrast means to you, capture it on ‘film’ and share it with us. Get creative and have fun!

Go find an interesting prop and snap a pic with it. Is it an official Salty Surprise? Nope, it’s just a slow holiday weekend for most of us in North America and I figured some inspiration would be appreciated.

Sometimes you’re just messing around in front of a dirty mirror before a photo shoot and end up catching something you weren’t expecting to.

Seriously, I need some book recs. I devoured the entire Dungeon Carl series this spring, but I’m gonna finish this latest book in the series pretty quick so I need something lined up. New or old, give me your summer reading recs.

It’s time for another Salty Surprise! It’s summer. It’s hot. We all need some escape. So I want to see what your favorite time of year is. Maybe break out the Christmas decorations if that’s your favorite holiday? Show off your favorite cozy fall cardigan perhaps? Somebody in here’s gotta have a thing for Punxsutawny Phil, so put together a Groundhog’s Day post for us! Whatever your favorite time of year is, we want to see it. Mine is obviously spooky hockey season.

This Salty Surprise will run for a full week so you’ve got plenty of time to make it good
