Law School- Episode 5- Devlog #27

Law School- Episode 5- Devlog #27

Morning everyone,

Last week went better than expected. I was hoping to spend less than ten days on the cutscene, and I actually wrapped it up on Sunday. Very pleased with how it looks and the weight it carries in the scene. The lip sync was good-ish at the start, but by the middle and towards the end I really nailed it, at least in my opinion. I'm getting more comfortable with the whole process.

I also had to convert my Genesis 8 MC (Connor) to a newer version of the model, Genesis 8.1. The morphs and controls for the lips, cheeks and jaw are just much better there. Lip syncing his lines with this version went a lot smoother, though expressions were trickier to manage since I wasn't used to the new controls. I'll only be using this version of Connor for cutscenes and keeping regular Genesis 8 for everything else.

I was pondering making cutscenes optional, with a toggle in the preferences screen, but seeing how they turn out, it hurts my heart a little bit lol. So we'll see about that.

I wasn't expecting to finish the cutscene yesterday, so I took the night off to reset mentally before diving into this week.

And it's going to be a busy one. Next Monday I'm flying back to my former country to handle a few remaining tasks before I can fully settle back in France. So the goal this week is to complete the next two scenes, a regular one and a massive one. After that comes another big scene, which realistically I won't finish before I leave. While I'm away I'll probably go over the script, re-read some scenes and rewrite bits here and there, fixing grammar issues and such. I should be back Thursday or Friday.

Anyway, let's talk numbers:

Static renders: 4,005

Animations: 171

Story content: 58 scenes written (60,395 words)

Nothing new except the animation count. The cutscene runs just over a minute and took 14 different animations to pull off. Very happy with the result.

The last scene I'll be animating heavily is the final LEWD scene of the episode, and it's a GREAT one. I've had it in my head for quite some time now, so I'm excited to finally bring it to life.

I'm hoping to finish all the remaining scenes before the end of July. I honestly think it's doable, even if those few days in Ireland will probably frustrate me a bit. Either way, I'll do my best to move on to postwork very soon.

That's it for this week's update. I'm getting back to work, and in the meantime, I wish you a good one.

Law school- Episode 5 Devlog 26#

I don't usually drop shots like this in devlogs, but I like this one too much to keep it to myself. Have a little teaser of the Olive route for episode 5 (if you've been making the right choices 👀)

Hey everyone,

Last week went pretty much as planned. The goal was to get started on the cutscene, and I did exactly that yesterday night. Actually went further than expected and finished the whole scene containing it, so now I've looped back and started on the next segment. It's a big one, roughly twice the content of the previous cutscene, but nothing I can't handle.

Aiming to wrap it up within the next ten days.

On the story side of things, we are finally out of that house. Back to Stocklinburg, and I will happily never open that environment again, lol.

Now, I don't know what the weather's been like where you are, but it's been absolutely brutal here. My office hits 37 degrees Celsius when the PCs are rendering, which is just not workable. I kept finding myself stepping out without even thinking about it. By Thursday I had maybe 40 renders done for the week, which was rough. I decided to shut the render rigs down for now, and that brought it down to a more bearable 31 degrees. Still warm, but cool enough to actually focus and get back to a decent pace. Between Friday and Sunday I knocked out around 130 renders, which is solid.

I've ordered a portable AC, though it won't arrive until mid-July. Until then the plan is to run the PCs at night only and work during the day. Not ideal, but it's the best I can do during this heatwave. At least the content is moving.

Anyway, let's talk numbers:

Static renders: 4,005

Animations: 157

Story content: 58 scenes written (60,395 words)

We officially crossed 4,000 static renders, making this my biggest episode yet on that front. There's still one lewd scene and the cutscene animations left, so cracking 200 animations is well within reach. Very happy with where things stand.

It has taken longer than I expected, I won't pretend otherwise. But honestly, the quality has gone up along the way, and in terms of artistic direction this is probably my strongest episode yet, so I'll take it.

Next week is going to be all about the cutscene animations. Once that's done, it's just the last 6 scenes of the episode left.

That's it for this one. Thanks for the support and the kind words, genuinely. I tend to get in my own head about the six-month window I set for myself, and I know this one has gone past it. I appreciate you sticking around and reassuring me, this helps a ton.

Back to work. Have a great week everyone.

Best romantic avns that u have played??

Avns that feature character depth, where LI's feel like real people instead of just wanting to get in bed??

Avns that makes u connect to those characters? And delivers one of the best romantic moments??

Status Update - Episode 12

https://preview.redd.it/emo2uvthhl9h1.jpg?width=820&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62a028f67120c3df50e9f305c5e62b3169d435bc

This week, I have mostly playtested and polished the episode. I played plenty of runs from a variety of different branches. As always, there's a lot of canon content flavored by choices in the episode, and there are plenty of branched scenes and unique branch content, too.

It took me roughly 6-6.5 hours to play through the episode once without mini-games, while reading everything, not rushing but also not pausing for longer than needed. The duration would have been slightly longer if I had played with mini-games enabled, and in subsequent runs, it depends on how much content you read again or skip through. I also know every bit of how the free roam events work, which should shave off some play time too - you know, in case you get lost trying to find something *wink wink*.

As a whole, it's an episode worthy of a season finale in many different ways. I can't wait to read the discussions and your reactions.

Main menu changes

I did some work on the main menu and decided to make the platform versions more similar. I added a changelog button to the main menu. Click it, and a dialogue pops up with the log of version changes. The version number has moved into this changelog as well, and in its place on the main menu, you'll find a Quit button, much like the Steam/GOG versions.

https://preview.redd.it/mxhz092jhl9h1.jpg?width=820&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a820c51953a6a9f5d12e29d3317517270fd21690

Animation queue

All PCs are rendering animations, and the speed has sadly slowed down a bit. But it's not by much; we're talking a 5-10% general decrease.

The decrease comes from the kind of lewd scenes the PCs are rendering. I've had one lewd scene that rendered faster than the rest, and that lewd scene only has one more animation left to render. Of the remaining 4 types of lewd scenes in the queue, they seem to be similar in render times.

31 animations remain in the render queue, and the estimated remaining render time is 15-16 days - still on track for the end of the second week of July.

Polishing

After playing, I realized I needed a few more renders in one area of the episode. I will pose and render those next week when I work through my to-do list of polishing activities.

That to-do list is smaller than usual. It only has 21 to-dos after this week's runs, and I haven't stopped to fix anything yet; I've just been playing and making notes on what to fix. Usually, this to-do list has 70-100 things to fix during the polishing phase.

I think the low count is a testament to the focused work I did for every branch during this development cycle. Hopefully, I didn't let much slip.

New feature - Sex sounds

I've playtested the feature I've been working on for a few weeks, and based on what I've seen, there's no reason not to include it in v0.12.0.

Today, I can reveal what it is. I've added sound effects to lewd animations. We're talking sex sounds here. It's a new feature that you can enable/disable that comes with a separate volume slider, like this:

https://preview.redd.it/6kivltkmhl9h1.jpg?width=820&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a9d7d1fe3af9d269a36c874056b811080b2525b

So if you don't like what you hear and want to keep the game the way it used to be, you can mute it.

To clarify what it is and what it isn't, I've worked on making the sounds effective without letting them steal too much attention.

As there are no voice actresses for the girls, we're not talking about moans and sexy talk; we're talking about different kinds of body sounds. Kisses and blowjobs are not included, as I felt those would need voice acting to have a good effect. And I've been very careful when adding the sound effects, as I wouldn't want anything to come off as off-putting.

The labor-intensive part was the synchronization, as I had to go through 1400+ animations to do this. But I did that in a few days of efficient work.

I manually synchronized the sound with each animation, then wrote a script to automate the audio muxing. Running the script and merging animations with audio takes less than 5 minutes with that script - I love scripts, they make development tasks so much easier.

I'm pleased with the way it turned out. I think the sounds elevate the lewd scenes, but I'll leave the final verdict to you.

This feature does, however, come with a bit of a problem - Episode 12 patching. The majority of the video files have been updated to include sound, so to get this feature with patching, you'd need to download a huge patch, which would almost make patching redundant. You would have to re-download all the animation RPA files for each episode of the season.

So, I have decided to exclude the updated movie RPA files from the episode 12 patch and make them available as a separate download if you want to add the sex sound while patching.

To avoid confusion, this is what it will mean for this release:

https://preview.redd.it/g8pylgqnhl9h1.jpg?width=820&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1fa7d5d884e3723c55c44bcfea0fa87ab661085e

Basically, if you intend to patch your game and want the updated animations with the sound effects, you'll need to download some extra optional files. And if you intend to download the full version of the game, you don't have to worry about it - it's included by default.

If you're not comfortable patching your game, I strongly recommend downloading the full version.

Have a nice weekend

Strangers on Paper- DevLog #49.

Hi everyone!

This devlog is coming to you guys a little later than planned buuut we did pump out a 4k render and the BTS article on writing/creating today as well so we can say it was a productive weekend. Speaking of productivity, Grogu is on fire. Ever since he got the GPU, I’ve been getting so many previews of his renders that I think Messi has truly inspired him (according to Grogu though, the true muse was Anya Taylor-Joy wearing the Argentina colors).

Going back to our weekly goals, I just checked, and last time I said we were “about a week and something behind our schedule” and at the time of writing this, that stays true, maybe closer to two weeks. The GPU being delayed did kick us a bit in the butt, and not even Anya can make Grogu’s PC render faster. As for me, I went from being ahead of things to going back to being behind in the coding area, since I took a few extra jobs this week which were great but didn’t leave much time for SoP. I’ve already scheduled times for RenPy-ing in what’s left of June so that I can catch up, and by next week we should have our July goals clear and ready for you all.

As I was writing the Behind-the-scenes article, I realized how much I missed writing those. Lately these dev logs have been more about the specifics of our process, which is good and we’ll continue to do, but I do want to go back to sharing more reflections on each part of our process as well. Right now though… it’s Sunday night. So I’ll mention this to ask you guys what you’d like to read more about here. Sometimes I stop myself from saying too much about Chapter 3 or about SoP in general because I think you guys would rather just have the chapter already than hear about it, but maybe I’m wrong. Or maybe you wanna hear about that game I played that was really great. Or maybe I’ll write about whatever pops into my head when I’m not sleep-deprived and listening to drunk fútbol fans clapping to Cumbia on the sidewalk. That… sounds like a plan.

Do share your thoughts, whether they’re about SoP, the World Cup, Anya, we enjoy reading you guys as well. Have a lovely week!

What's Desert Stalker about??

I have Heard about it and Artemis a lot. Initially I didn't want to play sci-fi and stick to a grounded, slice of life type, but i have played all the good ones. So having nothing to play, i decided to try desert stalker. What is it about? What should I expect??

About Leaving Dna...

I finally finished leaving dna. It has been recommended to me a lot of times and I have to say, it's one of the best I have ever played. Mostly avns I have played are character driven u know, but the story of this avn gets u hooked. I liked the mc. I also liked that he used to be reserved but slowly with the right people, he started to open up. But the thing which this avn does is.. It throws a lot of twists at you, just like a court-justice webseries does.

When I started playing it, i immediately thought that I would pursue jamie path until malena arrived on that bike for her's. I realised I am gonna do her path. That's why the twist at the end of chapter 5 hits even more. I have a lot of questions. I can't wait for the next update. Thanks to everyone who recommended it to me.

What are your reviews on 'No such luck'?

I have heard about it a few times, and wanted to check it out. If u have played it, tell me about it.

What's your reviews about Bare Witness?

I have heard about it a lot in this community, but the reviews are insanely inconsistent. Like for some it is top 3, some rate it below average. As for me, I like grounded, slice of life, slow burning avn with a good story, a game where conversations feel real. Can this game do that for me??

What makes Being a dik so great?

Personally for me, it's because of the college environment and how well it is created. Especially the side character, everyone has a story and a particular personality. LI's are also great. I love how complex and large its branching is. The overall world created by DPC is what makes this game my favourite. What's your opinion?

Strangers on Paper- DevLog #48.

Hey there, Stranger! I’m hoping you read that with a Merchant accent. I also hope you’re all doing great! We’re doing fine ourselves, only that Buenos Aires hasn’t seen the sun for weeks and that’s driving me a bit insane but oh well (yes, I’ll continue to complain about the weather till Spring comes along).

This past week I worked on the bits I felt were missing for Becca and they’ve made all the difference. I will probably be editing them in the near future, but that’s not a big deal. Most of the editing for her scenes involves making her sentences shorter, because she doesn’t speak much unless she’s fully comfortable. So I’ll usually read a scene back and be like ‘nope, that’s too long to sound like Becca’ and cut a lot of words out.

Grogu has finally gotten hold of the GPU this past Sunday and the number of renders per day has already grown substantially so we’re both super excited about that. I’ll be the one doing the coding for the renders after he’s done with those and with the post-processing so that’ll save us a lot of time - or probably result in a lot of unexpected bugs! Yay.

Some things we hadn’t considered initially and that may require some extra time:

Recaps: A long time has gone by, and perhaps some of you don’t want to play the whole thing again, so I’ve been preparing the script for short little recaps of all major events. This is very low priority so we’ll push it to the end of the development and the Early Release may not include it.

UI and SFW version: I’m pretty sure many people don’t know that SoP is by default set on “SFW” mode, and the more explicit renders can be turned on from the settings menu. The UI will go through a bit of a rework to make this and other things clearer and the Early Release version may only include the NSFW version. Why do we keep doing that? Ah… a question for another day. Again, this is a low priority of ours at the moment, so we may keep the same UI just for now.

In short, we’re still about a week and something behind our schedule, but hopefully me working the rest of the Ren’Py code will put us back on track, especially during the alpha testing period. I’m honestly super looking forward to that (it’s when I play the whole game back to back from the beginning, including Chapter 3 in full finally!) while also dreading it (it’s also usually when I’m most stressed, sleep poorly and obsess over shit that doesn’t matter).

Since this next week doesn’t involve much writing for me, I’ll also be working on the Behind-The-Scenes article about character creation. You guys have already given me such good suggestions, let me know if there’s anything else you’d like to read about on it! I may also move forward with Chapter 4 (the final one!) while I’m at it…

What's the difference between western and eastern avns?

I am kinda new to this genre and I have seen the word 'western' avns quite a few times. I am genuinely curious what's the difference? How many types of avns are there??

Recommend me good slice of life, grounded, feel good romantic avns with a nice story.

I have already played (strangers on paper, yesterday crossroads, chasing sunsets, leap of faith, the missing part, STWA- unbroken, race of life, interwined, badik, law school, Summer's gone)

Also recommend me except hs avns. Thankz.

I had a question about MC's..

Are there any avns with female mc? If I am not wrong most avns have a male mc? Does that mean women don't play avns? Because personally when I play i put myself in mc's shoes(pretty sure that's what everyone does) but I'll be having difficulty in doing so if it's a female mc(not that I am a misogynist). What's ur opinion on this?

All the avns I have played..

I started my avn journey from summer heat. I was looking for porn games as usual that's when I found it. Somewhere in the middle i felt something, something I have felt watching good romantic movies and i realised oh this genre has something more. Kinda sad it is abandoned.

My second avn was being a dik of course everyone's favourite including mine. Nothing to say much. Shout out to my girl Josy.

Then I played heart problems. The story is not much but the land lady is one of the hottest I have seen.

After that I took a break. But the game that really hooked me to avn genre was intertwined. Which I have played a month ago maybe two. I joined this community around that time(maybe that played a part also). Since then I have played quite a few avns. I am almost addicted.

I played law school which is one of my fav for a few reasons but the most important.. i liked most of its LI's. Unlike most avns where I have a preferred mg. Here I am quite confused about which one to choose. I know we can pursue all paths now(available according to our nature of choices) but i am sure in the next updates we will have to choose one and I am quite confused. The story and visuals are amazing too.

Then I played Chasing sunsets, one of the classics. I had a very good time and figured out why almost everyone recommended it to me. The story is very good and both lis are amazing and that's why I went with the throuple route.

After that I played leap of faith. Funny that I first left it during chapter 1 because of poor visuals or something but I gave it another try after a fellow person recommended me. And I am glad I played it. Story felt good but I was not ready for the end of chapter 6. Not only cece jumping was shocking enough, what the dev said about his own experience. Man that hit me like a truck. Especially the line '' life sucks sometimes.. but this is just a game'' bestowing mercy apon us and giving us a chance that life didn't give him. Although I did find some loop holes here and there but overall it was quite good.

I also played summer's gone and i liked it very much especially season 1. Personally I like story much much more than lewd scenes. So having no lewd scenes at all is no problem for me. That's why season 1 is almost perfect for me. Season 2 is good but I hate the fillers they have added just to stretch the length. The conversations are so long and boring. But overall it's quite good. My top 5 probably. And Bella, what a character.

And i yesterday played Strangers on paper and oh my god what can I say it's not just an avn it's a fucking history in making. It's the best romantic avn I have everplayed and I am sure it will be my most favourite when it's completed. It's a fucking experience that no avn has ever gave me. And oh my god what an li Amy is. I am out of words.

I also completed STWA-Unbroken, i loved the angle around mc's past and how he overcomes it. I also love the boxing angle, it keeps the avn fun. The li's are also good especially my favourite elspeth. Highly recommended from me.

I recently completed yesterday's crossroads. And I have to give credit to the dev. This game like throws all the exes back to the life of our mc. But their story is so good that u feel connected to all of them. Pretty hard to choose tbh. I kinda enjoyed it. Although I felt bored a little in between but overall it's very good.

I also completed westview academy. It was better than i was expected it to be. Having read some reviews that it story sucks, i was a bit sceptical but having played it, i can definitely say it's very good. It also focuses heavily on humour. LI's are also very lovely. Yes overall story is not much but i didn't complained. It's a character driven story. Highly recommended if u like college themes avns or slice of life type.

I also gave greyvale rivalry a try. Although there's only 1 epsiode. This avn gave me badik vibes. It has a lot of potential. Let's see what the dev can deliver.

Yesterday i completed race of life. I liked the story where the mc needs to make tons of money for her daughter's treatment. The li's are also very beautiful. I liked racing mini game and the animation. Overall it's very good.

I am currently playing leaving dna and the missing part.

The next in line is domino beach, Artemis, cobd, desert stalker.

If u have another daz games like these that I have not mentioned, please recommend.
