I'm a fellow "hobbyist" and read this sub fairly often and I've had a internal complaint that I see voiced constantly: The "hit or miss" nature of buying and using these products. What to do?!

Here's a thought. This may be a case of "sounds good in theory but difficult to execute" - still, why not state the theory, at least? Regulation from some govt agency is a non-starter. But isn't the idea of capitalism that the best product wins and the other ones wither away? That is the case, but the reason that doesn't end up in practice is often simply because either consumers are so plentiful that pissing off a few has no effect on the "bottom line" (pun intended, no, I'm not sorry!) and/or consumers don't communicate with each other. However, we've had recent cases where HUGE brands, publicly traded brands, pissed off enough people that a truly organized consumer strike, a.k.a. "boycott" - worked! Bud Light, John Deere, Home Depot have all felt this and changed.

That got me to "thinking", a rare and physically painful event. After recovering, idea intact, I starting writing this post. Hear me out. Poppers are not an industry even remotely the size of a publicly traded company. Therefore any decently organized boycott should have a larger effect. Of course, the entities making the stuff are clouded in secrecy, so that's a difficult thing to target. But what is not difficult to target, are the retailers. As well, how many "forums" for this kind of activity exist? I don't know of any outside this platform, for which exists a few subs.

What if we "hobbyist" took a bit of effort and cooperation - even with a poster you may not particularly like - for the "greater good"? Two levels of communication: 1) communicating to one another (hobbyist level), then 2) communicating to the retailer (outlet level). And most important is the WORDING of the communication. The wording needs to let the retailer know that hey, you may be writing them a single consumer BUT you are organizing. The best way to do that? IMHO is to have a "format". I.e. Someone...I could make a stab...puts together a short, terse, very clear statement that lets the retailer know not just you "claim" to be part of a group but, when that retailer starts to get 5...10...20 of the EXACT SAME WORDED notes protesting a product and saying "you either drop them, tell them to get their act together, or we drop YOU"? Then the retailer KNOWS hey, these guys are organized, they got pissed to the point that they are banding together!

A single consumer complaint is an irritant to a retailer. A single consumer lost is a "who cares". But dozens of consumers in a niche market like this? Can put them out of business. There may be some pain in the process! Some retailers some of us like, gone. Hey, that is the "growing pains" part of the process where the end goal, which CAN be totally met, is WE THE CONSUMERS are the regulators. You know what regulates? REVENUE. MONEY. And the CREDIBLE THREAT of losing both.

So...what do you all say? You can always msg me and I'll try and check back on this. Maybe I'll repeat this as a post. In fact, I'll do that and encourage you all to comment. Comments will attract other comments and people will bend to the FAMO (Fear Of Missing Out). With a bit of follow-through and accepting a bit of pain may occur as this will be a PROCESS, we can clean up this industry ourselves! The govt is just a big hammer. We can be that as well.
