4 packs of Megamax just saved my apartment
So I just moved into my first apartment fresh out of uni / dorms and was just tidying it up because my parents are due to visit tomorrow for the first time.
It was already getting late and I was already getting exhausted but still had to mop the hallway and wash some clothes. I was just filling up another water bucket in the shower when I realized the washing machine was making a lot of noise as it's not yet seated perfectly so I ran over to check and my ADHD riddled ass decided it was a good idea to hold it down for the last 20 minutes until it's done so that's what I did.
You can probably already see where this is going but when it finally ran its course I went back to the other room and to my absolute horror the water had been overflowing from the bucket, all over the bathroom floor, through the hallway and into my homeoffice room, which was filled with more than a quarter inch of water. Edit: also this isn't a small room either at approx 250 square ft.
Very seldomly have I felt such an all encompassing sense of primal panic starting to run it's course through my whole body.
I instantly ran into my bedroom and grabbed my sheets, towels and any clothes I could get a hold of, ran back to the other room, slipped on the wet ground half way through the hallway, probably severely damaged my coccyx instantly got back up as pure adrenaline is one hell of a drug, got into the room and tried soaking up the water.
Needless to say everything got soaked instantly without any noticable effect besides sloshing around small waves of water in the still fully covered room. I ran to the shower and tried to wring out the sheets but that's when I learned that they hold on to water surprisingly well.
This wasn't working at all and I was close to just getting catatonic thinking about whether water was already dripping down from the ceiling of the apartment below. If it wasn't clear already, I may need to mention that the apartment is rented.
In a moment of sudden mental clarity I remembered the stash of 4 packs of differently colored Megamax I got when I went on a shopping spree due to finally having my own place to myself.
I ran to my bedroom, grabbed all four packs and basically threw all of them on the floor. The effect was almost instant, the water level already went down a lot after the first two packs, during the third the water had already gone down to where it wasn't sloshing anymore while I was frantically rubbing them all over the floor. By the time the last pack was done, I was already calming down to the point where I could methodically soak up the last drops of water.
Now I'm sitting on the bed, still shaking a bit writing this being absolutely fuking thankful my problem reduced from "How do I explain my parents I got evicted after two months of living on my own and being in crippling debt" to "How do I get rid of two black trash bags absolutely filled to the brim with maxxed out Megamax before they visit" while waiting for my sheets and clothes to dry.
